PictureAbe in repose following the annual AEA dinner.
The year was 1999.  Cher’s Believe and TLC’s No Scrubs were burning up the charts.  It was the best movie year ever. Gas cost $1.17 a gallon.  And, an intrepid group of young evaluators came up with Getting to Outcomes.

Dr. Pam Imm discusses what is Dr. Scaccia's least favorite GTO Step -- 2.
As part of the year-long celebration of 20 years of GTO, we were able to present at the American Evaluation Association’s annual conference in Minneapolis, with a specific focus on the use of GTO in educational settings.  Our friend Annie Wright shared how her team at SMU’s CORE center used GTO in their work. We were also able to hear from David Fetterman about how GTO has helped to move the field of empowerment evaluation forward.

All slides and presentations can be found in the Presentation and Report section of our website. Next year’s conference will be in Portland, OR.

In other news:
  • And yes, there were plenty of other great sessions at AEA.
  • Jonathan was up at Ariadne Labs to hear about their work examining readiness for quality improvement. They recently received funding from the Patterson Foundation to develop a data repository of readiness to identify contributing factors across settings.
  • We popped in really quickly to the American Public Health Association’s annual conference in Philadelphia to talk about some of the SCALE synthesis work.  We are currently sitting upon files and files of data that were are continuing to mine to understand what contributes to community transformation.
  • In case you missed it, some comments on the use of unobtrusive measures; NOW WITH RESPONSE FROM FETTERMAN!

And like that, the 2010s are nearly over!

"At some point, we just have to roll up our sleeves and do something different.

That's what readiness provides. It's the something that makes implementation a bit better."
